Employers will be granted the right to verify job applicants’ qualifications
The Council of Ministers has adopted a draft amendment to the Act on Higher Education and Science that will permit employers to verify the educational qualifications of job applicants, government spokesperson Adam Szłapka announced. To date employers have not been able to verify directly at a the higher education institution the authenticity of a degree because the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO) states that the regulations do not provide that right.
Under the draft, universities will, at the request of an employer with a legitimate interest, confirm the details contained in a certificate of a degree, based on the applicant’s first name, surname and certificate number, for a fee of 1 per cent of the minimum wage. A condition for submitting such a request will be the existence of reasonable doubt as to the authenticity of a diploma, which includes verification of anti-forgery security features.
